Volunteer opportunities at RMBO give you a chance to become involved with the conservation of birds and their habitats. Our current volunteer opportunities include:

Office and Organizing:

Library organizing - Volunteer needed to catalog and organize the library in our Brighton office. Cataloging skills preferred.

Filing and organizing - A few hours of assistance is needed in our Brighton office.
Scanning slides – Volunteer and access to a slide scanner needed to convert old slides onto the computer.

English/Spanish translating:

Translation – Volunteer needed translate our Web site into Spanish, from September through May to translate letters for our Birds Beyond Boarders program, and in December to translate survey protocols into Spanish. Volunteers can work in our office or their own home.

Research:

Pre-field season prep – Assistance needed with preparation for the field season.

Owl surveys - Help is need in southwest South Dakota and the Black Hills, February through May.

Breeding Bird Atlas – Help is needed throughout South Dakota, May through July.

Data entry - Helping to enter data collected during the field seasons. Most help is needed in August and September at the Fort Collins office.

Other:

Special Events - Helping at the RMBO information booth, setting up/taking down, etc. Events are usually 4-6 hours and vary in location.

Membership coordinator– Long-term volunteer needed for planning and carrying out membership recruitment efforts; acknowledging new members, renewals, and changes in the membership levels; maintaining and updating membership database; and inviting members and potential members to special events and tracking their attendance.

Volunteer coordinator– Long-term volunteer needed for planning and carrying out volunteer recruitment efforts, maintaining and updating volunteer database, maintaining communication with volunteers, directing volunteers to the project that best fits their interests and skill set, tracking volunteer appreciation efforts.
