Be a Friend to Birds & RMBO!

Generous private donors strengthen Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory’s capacity to conserve native birds and their habitats. RMBO's Friends program encourages and recognizes significant contributions that support our work for healthy landscapes and wildlife for today and future generations.

Our primary funding from grants and contracts for specific projects is crucial, but often doesn’t offer the flexibility to develop and implement new efforts important to our mission. Private donations give RMBO the agility to tackle the most pressing needs for bird and habitat conservation and to maximize ongoing efforts. Such gifts also have immense value in helping to leverage public and private grants.

Friends of RMBO contribute $500 or more a year. When you Chip In at the levels below (based on cumulative gifts made during a calendar year), you will receive:

•   RMBO decal, newsletters, annual report
•   Monthly updates from the Executive Director about our work, successes, events and more
•   Invitations to RMBO’s annual picnic and other events
•   A unique set of note cards with photos by our staff and board members
•   Opportunities to volunteer in field biology, education and citizen science
•   Recognition in RMBO's annual report
•   Birding trips, tips and seminars
•   Discounts on RMBO gear and selected events
•   Free or discounted outings with bird, biology, ecology, land management and education experts
•   The satisfaction of knowing you are conserving birds and their habitats!

Donation Levels for Friends of RMBO are:

    Guardian      -  $500 to $999*
    Steward        -  $1,000 to $4,999*

    Benefactor   - $5,000 to $9,999*
    Investor        - $10,000 + *

* In appreciation of your special commitment to RMBO, we offer our Friends tailor-made outings in the field with our biologists, educators, executive director and board members who are experts in bird identification, biology, ecology, land management, environmental education and more. Stewards, Benefactors and Investors are invited to join these experts for excursions ranging from bird walks to banding trips to multiple-day tours seeking out unique habitats and birds of the western United States and Mexico. These are fun, one-of-a-kind events where you will experience our mission – conserving birds and their habitats – in action.
(Guardian level Friends are invited to selected outings.)

Some RMBO initiatives that Friends help support:

Science

•   Documenting how bird populations are responding to habitat change and working with land managers to apply this knowledge and data.
•   Placing radio transmitters on Mountain Plover to evaluate brood survival in Nebraska – a first step toward evaluating the effectiveness of nest-marking on private agricultural land.
•   Using radio telemetry to monitor wintering grassland bird survival in Mexico, providing a basis for conservation planning.
Education
•   Creating an environmental learning center at the Old Stone House in Colorado to expand our hands-on learning programs, which reach thousands of children and adults each year.
•   Creating awareness and appreciation for grasslands with an on-line module.
•   Training Mexican biologists in bird identification, scientific study design and population monitoring; hosting workshops on grassland bird conservation; and developing a best-management-practices manual in Spanish to encourage and guide conservation in Mexico.
Stewardship
•   Conducting outreach and habitat projects for at-risk species in Colo., Neb., S. D. and Wyo. (including the Lesser Prairie-Chicken in Colo.) to engage landowners in these species’ survival.
•   Establishing relationships with more than 650 landowners in the Great Plains and working on more than 100 ranches and farms to enhance more than 100,000 acres of habitat for at-risk species.
•   Publishing and distributing more than 50,000 of the “Pocket Guide to Prairie Birds” to raise awareness among private landowners about priority birds; “Pocket Guide to Sagebrush Birds” has also been published.
•   Collaborating with state and federal agencies to put biologists on the ground to help landowners implement Farm Bill practices.

Your support is vital to bird and habitat conservation. Thank You!
