Volunteer at Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory

RMBO volunteers contribute to the conservation of birds and their habitats, help youths and adults understand and connect with nature, and help keep the organization running smoothly. Volunteer opportunities include:

* Bald Eagle Watch

* ColonyWatch

 * HawkWatch 

  • Volunteer Naturalist

  • Office volunteers are needed from time to time for a variety of tasks, such as:

    * Library organizing - catalog and organize in our Brighton office. Cataloging skills preferred.
    * Filing and organizing
    * Scanning slides
  • English/ Spanish translating
  • Research:

* Pre-field season preparation
* Breeding Bird Atlas throughout South Dakota, May through July.
* Data entry - enter data collected during the field seasons -- mostly needed in August and September at the Fort Collins office.

 

 

  • Special Events – help at the RMBO information booth, setting up/taking down, talking with visitors, etc. Events are usually 4-6 hours; locations vary.
  • Volunteer coordinator– Long-term volunteer needed for planning and carrying out volunteer recruitment efforts, maintaining and updating volunteer database, maintaining communication with volunteers, directing volunteers to the project that best fits their interests and skill set, tracking volunteer appreciation efforts.
